MSc Animal Bioscience
Foundations of Animal Science
Following graduation from the University of Glasgow in 1980, I spent 5 years in large animal practice in Northumberland and Cumbria before joining the Moredun Research Institute where I conducted research into neonatal diseases of lambs. In 1990 I joined Glasgow University Veterinary School as principal of their Large Animal Practice in Lanark, responsible for teaching undergraduates skills in large animal medicine and surgery. In 1998 I moved to the Roslin Institute to join Prof Ian Wilmut’s team and lead the animal side of the cloning projects. This work resulted in production of the first gene targeted lamb and the first pig to be cloned in Europe. In 2008 The Roslin Institute merged with the University of Edinburgh and became part of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. I am now Deputy Head of School and responsible for the operational side of the school. I am a Past President of the AVTRW and a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Council.
