Supervised clinical scholars (residents in veterinary diagnostic imaging):
My main area of research is the use of computed tomography (CT) in the diagnostics of diseases in animals. I have extensively published in this field and edited the currently only comprehensive textbook on this subject. CT is a slice imaging modality using X-rays which is extremely versatile. Therefore it can be used for almost body parts and in many species. We routinely CT scan dogs, cats, horse heads and rabbits, but it is also useful for more unusual species such as whooping cranes and other birds, tortoises of all sizes and fish. In larger species such as horses we are still limited to the smaller body parts such head, neck and legs. CT also generates very good data for size measurements, bone density and functional parameters such kidney function. It therefore is very interesting for a wide range of research questions
