Ford Foundation Fellowship, “Projeto Políticas da Cor” (Colour Policies Project)

Prize: Fellowships awarded competitively

Description

The project aimed to incentive and maintain black low-income students in University during the first year, providing financial aid. As a counterpart, students help the institution (NGO) where they studied to prepare for University, in this case, it was: Núcleo de Consciência Negra na Universidade de São Paulo (Centre of Black Consciousness at the University of Sao Paulo – NCN-USP). The main project the students developed was the organisation of the NGO's historical archive related to the trajectory of the Black Movement in Sao Paulo during the '70s, '80s and '90s. In the end, we gathered information in the format of a book to show the participation of NCN-USP in the Black Movement in Brazil. Among the discoveries the students had during the management of historical data in the archive, we organised lectures and workshops at the NCN-USP for the students in this institution.
