Project Details
Description
This project consists of writing a feature film script inspired on ancient Mixtec screenfolds. The project explores how to tell a precolonial Indigenous story through film, while much of the historical information is missing. The project examines decolonial approaches to storytelling and the central question is: How can the film script incorporate the uncertainty and lack of information, while at the same time creating a connection between the precolonial Indigenous culture and the present day Mixtec People? The project was selected to participate in the ImagineNative Indigenous Screenwriting Intensive. The project was presented at the "Ancient Writing, Contemporary Voices" Programme, organised by SD CELAR of the British Museum (https://www.britishmuseum.org/sites/default/files/2021-06/Tenochtitlan_Programme_English_June_2021.pdf). The project is supported through an RSE Award.
