This project sought to quantify the impact of the arrival of a significant part of Adam Smith’s library to the University’s intellectual community in the late 19th century. As a preliminary, exploratory project, the work required several threads of investigatory work and organisation, prior to be able to pursue larger funding opportunities. Funding from the Edinburgh Futures Institute allowed for three paid student internships to: define digital corpora, understand further digitisation needs, explore the extent of the digitised University theses and routes to making the data within malleable, and exploring where other collections might benefit from the same model.
