Analysis of whole genome sequences of Sudanese Leishmania donovani clinical isolates for development of new diagnostics, treatment and vaccines

Project Details


• To identify parasite genomic markers associated with development of the different clinical forms of leishmaniasis by analysis of whole genome sequences of Sudanese Leishmania donovani isolates from Visceral, PKDL, Mucosal and Cutaneous patients.
• To determine the identity of VL/ PKDL paired isolates by comparative analysis of the genome sequences of Leishmania donovani isolates from patients who developed VL followed by PKDL
• To determine the sequence variation of selected virulence A2, Li1040 and diagnostic Kinesin genes to improve the diagnosis and management of Leishmaniasis.
• To cluster the parasites according to the clinical phenotype
