Building Peace and expanding access to legal representation in Nigeria’s gangscapes

Project Details

Description

This project aims to: a). develop the first publicly accessible online directory of lawyers and law firms offering pro-bono legal services to marginalised youth in Nigeria and b). reduce inter-gang violence in target areas of Lagos. Through facilitating high-level stakeholder workshops and community mediation meetings, the goal is to support the development of a policing culture that would encourage the use of such a directory by police and suspects, at the point of first booking, and to underpin this with active mediation which reduces the need for legal representation in the first place. This project targets major gangs in Lagos.
