Children and the Internet of Things

Project Details

Description

The aim of this project is to conduct a pilot study examining the Internet of Things in the context of children’s play in the home and to consider potential educational applications. The study is being undertaken in spring and summer 2014.

Layman's description

This study focuses on visits to up to twelve homes in which there is a four- to eight-year-old child who uses IoT gaming devices such as Activision Skylanders and Disney Infinity. We are observing and analysing children’s play to develop our understanding of the reception, consumption and interplay of these toys within a family context. Workshops will also be carried out in a local primary school.
