Layman's description
We will provide new capacity building initiatives for an academic cross-College network recently established within the University of Edinburgh (UoE). We will support new ways of networking, professional development and engagement within our community and start developing its academic standing and interface with research colleagues and public.
We have established an academic community of UoE scientists since 2015 and have just organised our 9th well-attended meeting featuring local research talks. Our cross-College network across five campuses (Roslin, IGMM, SCRM/QMRI, KB, BMS) now connects over 150 scientists working on ‘Chromatin, Epigenetics and Transcriptional Regulation’, with the aim of building a strong interdisciplinary research community. Meetings are organised three times a year and represent an opportunity for students, postdocs and PIs to present their work to a specialised audience for feedback and discussion. We foster dialogue between scientists of all levels and promote collaborations between UoE labs and Institutes.
So far, our network has been organised around meetings in the absence of a budget. To increase our networking capacity and academic profile we request costs to (i) invite two UK speakers at our upcoming 2018 meetings, (ii) cater for social events after the meetings, (iii) offer incentives for community engagement and development, (iv) develop our online academic profile.
