Project Details

Description

This project aims to apply different conflict archaeology methods to study evidence for violence at the Roman Fort of Ambleside (Lake District), where scattered Roman sling bullets have been discovered over the years suggesting an external attack. We will carry out systematic metal detector surveys and analyse LIDAR data and aerial images to define the battlefield. The project has the potential to define a previously overlooked battle scenario from the Roman occupation of Britain. This project has now finished.
