Context dependent and multimodal learning:from insect brains to robot controllers

Project Details

Key findings

We tested the ability of flies to learn complex odour associations. Flies could recall odour combinations, but were not able to solve more difficult problems in which the value of odours depended on the context of presentation. We implemented a computational model of the olfactory and learning circuit in the brain of the fly, which suggested flies should have greater learning capacity than displayed in our experiments.
