Description
Moray House School of Education & Sport, University of Edinburgh in Partnership with Traditional Dance Forum of Scotland
Rad Trad Dance is a new dance theatre show to be co-devised and co-choreographed with 60 eleven-year-old pupils from two of Edinburgh's deprived inner city primary schools: Abbeyhill and Royal Mile. It will be performed by 20 post-graduate students undertaking their MSc in Dance Science and Education at the University of Edinburgh as part of Pomegranates: Scotland's only festival of world dance. This production will be an episode towards the assessed Professional Practice Portfolio assignment.
The project will provide space for 60 young people, aged 10 to 11 to learn how to devise and choreograph trad dance theatre, whilst the Pomegranates festival live dance and music show will provide a platform for them to engage as audience members of intergenerational demographics with trad culture in a social context. This audience experience will allow them to reflect on the aesthetic meaning of the work and how their ideas contributed to the dance choreography.
