Key findings

- Working with the UK NREN (UKERNA) the facility to provide dedicated lightpaths (dedicated bandwidth connections) for science was realised.
- It was show that such can significantly enhance the quality and capability of the computing infrastructure for the science
- Demonstrations were made in (i) particle physics (ii) radio astronomy (iii) high performance computing.
- The limitations of the internet protocol known as TCP were investigated. By modifying TCP and/or use of multiple streams - data transfer rates of between 1 and 10 Gbit/s were achieved.
- The legacy of the project is that dedicated lightpaths for science are now part of JANET routing business - and several science areas are benefiting today.
