Layman's description

This project seeks to understand the strategic changes that took place in the BBC over a twenty year period. More specifically, the study charts the displacement of one logic - cultural patrician - by another - new media executive. The study explores the tenures of Alasdair Milne, Michael Checkland, John Birt and Greg Dyke as Director-Generals. A major focus of the study is the implementation of Producer Choice, an internal market within the BBC, which had a profound impact on programme making.
