Project Details

Description

The ILIO project arises from the collaboration between the Italian Departments of four Una Europa Universities – Bologna, Edinburgh, Leuven and Madrid. The project will bring together senior and early career scholars through a series of in person and online seminars to discuss some of the most crucial issues facing the production and transmission of contemporary literary texts observed from an international and interdisciplinary perspective. The New Millennium is witnessing challenging transformations that are changing for ever the production and the uses of literary texts – these transformations include the uneven relationship with the national and European cultural tradition, the transmediality of the literary text in the age of new media, the negotiation between established literary canons and new narrative styles and genres responding to issues of gender, multilingualism, local and ethnic identities, and new social phenomena more generally, the publishing market in the late-capitalist era, cultural policies on the dissemination and translation of literary works. The seminars will provide the contents and the methodologies for the pilot ILIO School (Bologna, summer 2023) and this will be open to early career researchers and postgraduate students. The research that will emerge from the project will be published in a multilingual volume by an international Open Access publishing house and will provide a key resource for the ILIO Summer School. The ILIO project is funded by Una Europa rand epresents the first step towards the creation of an International Observatory on Contemporary Italian Literature, which will be based in the four partner Departments.
