Localisation and speciation of Zn and Cr in the rhizosphere-microbe system used in phytoremediation of metal-contaminated soils.

Project Details

Description

Micro-XRF mapping and XANES analysis of zinc in plant roots of the hyperaccumulator Brassica juncea.

Key findings

Bacteria were found to significantly enhance the accumulation of Zn in roots with some evidence of changes in
the speciation/coordination of Zn within the plant root system, which reduced Zn toxicity to the plant, leading to better growth.
