Archives scoping project, which was upgraded into a funded research fellowship, looking into the history of the Edinburgh Incorporation of Mary's Chapel, or the building trades.

Key findings

The building trades modelled their corporate structure on the the household, using the language of the family and household to build unity and project both authority and legitimacy. Also developed the concept of 'composite corporatism', where multiple trades formed one craft incorporation. Several outputs, including a monograph, two journal articles, and a forth-coming critical edition of their sixteenth-century records.
