Description
The aim of this conference on “Masks and Screens” is to investigate the intermedial nature of early modern, modern and contemporary literary and theatrical forms in Japan and the West from a comparative perspective. Meiji and UoE scholars specialising in literary and theatre studies from the 15th to the 21st centuries and practitioners who work in this area will be invited to reflect on the similarities and differences in the uses of masks and screens in these two cultural areas, by highlighting their main characteristics, interactions and mutual influences.
