Description

Adhesive joints are ubiquitous for bonding and to ensure load transfer among structural elements. However, current bonding technologies may result in major issues: large weight penalties, structural failure, and unwanted environmental impacts. In his fellowship, innovative materials and structural concepts for sustainable structural bonding will be investigate by developing the understanding of mechanical metamaterials, i.e. how topological and geometrical manipulations of matter across many length scales result in extraordinary mechanical properties.
