My microbial second skin: Visualising the human as holobiont

Project Details

Description

The project develops theory and methods for constructing visibilities of complex biosocial phenomena like microbiomes. Specifically, the project aims develop empirical imaginaries of a microbiome-inclusive human body, in collaboration between the natural sciences, social studies of science, and artists. The focus of empirical attention is the gut mucosal wall— a site of intense activity of host-microbiota cross-talk.

The project is funded by a Seminar Grant from the Centre for the Social Studies of Microbes, University of Helsinki.
