The project funded by a British Academy Award is collaborative between the universities of Edinburgh, Roehampton and University. Dr. Wolfgang Mann from the University of Roehampton is principal investigator and Robin Thompson (University of Birmingham) and myself are co-investigators. We are exploring the online reading comprehension skills of deaf and hearing 13/14 year olds, choosing participants who have reading within a year of their chronological age. Using both eye tracking and think aloud protocols for different tasks, we aim to discover how effectively students comprehend online, how they search and how they develop criticality as they read.
