The goal of this project is to develop a new interpretation of the current replication ‘crisis’ in psychology which disrupts the prevailing narrative that experiments which do not replicate are the result of bad scientific practices. It will bring together philosophers and psychologists to develop an alternative perspective on replications: one that stresses their epistemic value and highlights the oft- overlooked conceptual conflicts that ground different researchers’ categorisation of experiments as successful or failed replications. The neglect of these features by the scientific community has fuelled public mistrust in science: by redressing this balance the project has the potential not only to further our understanding of the discipline of psychology, but also to restore confidence in the scientific method.
