Project Details

Description

This qualitative project explores first and third year students’ experiences of studying at five Schools at the University of Edinburgh. It consists of 20 focus groups with 64 students, and includes Scottish and RUK students from both widening participation and traditional backgrounds. It aims to identify the factors that contribute to successful outcomes (academic and social) and provide the basis for the development of strategies to address the issue. This is the third in a series of projects exploring widening participation at the University, and builds on Linda Croxford’s work on progression and degree outcomes at the University, and Cathy Howieson’s work exploring staff’s views of widening participation.
