Description

RGAI-FCT aims to enhance the teaching capabilities of refugee teachers in Uganda by
leveraging generative AI tools like Gemini. By developing an Accelerated Competency-Based Teacher
Training program, we will equip teachers with the skills to utilize generative AI for curriculum delivery and prompt engineering. The initiative targets 4 cohorts of teachers across 20 refugee camps, 34 schools, and 3 regions in Uganda, aiming to train teachers to improve educational outcomes for secondary-level learners aged 16 to 45 years. Employing an action-based mixed method, the project will involve hands-on workshops, a train-the-trainer methodology, and community participation. This approach integrates community and indigenous knowledge-based ethical practices to ensure cultural sensitivity and inclusivity of generative AI usage in refugee educational settings. This initiative aligns with global educational objectives, Uganda's Vision 2040, and Africa's Agenda 2063, and aims to create a sustainable model for integrating generative AI in refugee education.
