Project Details


The proposed project focuses on the seismic behaviour of groin vaults, which are among the most vulnerable structural elements in historical masonry churches. Shaking-table tests are set up to investigate the dynamic and seismic behaviour of groin vaults in different support conditions (isolated and with underlying walls and piers, to assess the effects of supporting structures: walls and piers) to understand the dynamic properties, the crack patterns and the collapse mechanisms.
This is fundamental to correctly drive a seismic strengthening project of a vault and will be useful to the professional engineers and building managers.
