Description
‘The Dead Are Jewels to Me’ was an intimate experimental film exploring my craft as a ‘Forensic Jeweller’, interrogating whether a new scientific practice could unearth hidden stories that lie beneath a surface. Supported by £10,000.00 funding from BBC Arts, Lux Scotland, Screen Scotland, and the British Film Institute, the project involved collaboration with independent filmmakers Rose Hendry and Isla Badenoch.
The film was commissioned by BBC4 and had its exclusive premiere as part of International Women’s Day Special Broadcast. It subsequently showcased at the British Film Institute (BFI) as part of London Short Film Festival 2022 (LSFF), where it was nominated for ‘Best UK Short Film’ in the ‘So It Goes’ Category; at the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) as part of Glasgow Short Film Festival 2022 (GSFF), where it was nominated for the ‘Scotland’s Year of Stories Short Film Award’ in the ‘Different Sphere’ Category; and in the ‘Shooting People’ New Shoots Filmmakers Competition, where it was a finalist in the 2021 Winter Category.
