A fuller understanding of the extent and significance of the collections of Shakespearean material held at University of Edinburgh and National Library of Scotland; a contribution to the understanding of Shakespeare's place in cultural life and activities over four centuries; a greater understanding of the place of the Shakespeare and his plays in the cultural life of Scotland from the 17th to the 20th centuries.
