Description
Awarded - £2,780
From October 2015, health visitors are once again a universal service in Scotland. This policy means health visitors are uniquely positioned to identify potential problems with language development before a child enters school or nursery. However, it is not clear whether or to what extent the current resources and training on language development available to health visitors sufficiently covers their needs, especially given the increasing number of children with English as an Additional Language. This project will allow academic experts on typical and atypical child language development in monolingual and bilingual children, to work together with Children in Scotland, on surveying current practices and on developing specialist training sessions and materials for health visitors.
