Abstract
A systematic study of the Rydberg and ion-pair states of Br2, I2, IBr and IC1, observed using resonance ionisation techniques, is presented. We show that for Br2 and I2 Rydberg states dominate spectra obtained by coherent two-photon excitation, whilst ion-pair states dominate optical double resonance spectra. In contrast ion-pair states are observed both in the coherent two-photon excitation and optical double resonance spectra of IBr and IC1.
