Abstract
This paper reflects on ethnographic research at
Educational Video Center (EVC), a non-profit
media education centre in New York City. In this
paper I provide an analysis of EVC as a third space
(Bhabha 1994) and detail some of the processes
involved in Documentary Workshop, one of its
core programs, in order to discuss how meaning
is made through a complex series of pedagogical
processes. I go on to explore EVC as a site of
learning and consider ways that the pedagogical
processes of work with young people and digital
video production might be adopted in school and
Initial Teacher Education today.
