Abstract

The Walls of Derry delivers the city it’s ‘Maiden’ status. The circle of masonry has resisted impregnation since it first arose, it is virginal in circumstance. A complete unbroken coil, this up-thrust monument resonates at frequencies of a cosmological purity. Enclosed in a vibrant envelope, the ring(ing) is contagious. Resounding in an emptiness to become occupied. Fullness is entangled with emptiness, a rhythmic diaspora that mobilizes metaphysics of massive modulations.

A Wh( )ly Ring(ing) is a sonic assemblage instrumentalising a survey of the electromagnetic landscape that circulates the monumental Walls of Derry. The installation proposes alternative modes of listening, materialising the infrastructure of the postdigital, distributing a geophilosophical sensibility of the monument(al).

A Wh( )ly Ring(ing) is commissioned by Visual Artists Ireland and curated by Mirjami Schuppert.
