Abstract
In this overview of the phenomenon of acid rain, the sources, the depersion, and the deposition of acid pollutants, in both the wet and the dry phase, are discussed. Acid pollution is an international issue, and the effects of acid deposition on human health and on various materials, the cost of acid deposition, how emission can be reduced and removed, the current legislation in this field, and finally the response of the environment are considered, All these factors are overlaid with the societal contradiction that while everyone wants a clean environment, no one is prepared to pay for the necessary cleanup.
