Abstract / Description of output
Within the context of the PROMISE project, where closed-loop PLM is fully enabled, the number of requests for product modifications based on the analysis of the collected middle of life (MOL) and end of life (EOL) field data gathered from existing product in- stances is expected to increase exponentially. Accordingly, the production system must be able to accommodate these requests for changes in the product’s configuration, i.e., it must be able to evolve with the products it produces. This chapter shows how a new approach, Adaptive Production, can accommodate this co-evolution of the production system and its products. After the discussion of the underlying concepts, the discussion will focus on the software demonstrator developed during the PROMISE EU project to implement this approach.
