Abstract

The book examines various conceptions of justice and equality between democrats and oligarchs and their implications for political stability. Aristotle links instability and constitutional change to the passions and perceptions of justice that drive individuals and groups to overthrow the political order. A wide range of historical examples is provided to illustrate these dynamics. Proposals and recommendations aim to prevent the degeneration of democracies and oligarchies into tyrannies and promote the stability of constitutions by ensuring a dynamic balance between different political and social forces. Additionally, the ethical and cultural dimensions of politics are explored, highlighting the importance of education and moral and intellectual virtues for the formation of citizens and the prosperity of the polis. Finally, the "desirable city" is outlined as a political ideal, with details on the necessary conditions for its optimal functioning, from the number of citizens to climate and urban planning.
