Abstract / Description of output

This introductory essay frames the collected essays for this commemorative special issue of Art History on Image and Memory. For the first time, the past and present editors of Art History over its 40-year publication history are gathered together to consider what is arguably the defining conceptual practice of the discipline, the image and memory. The introduction, co-written with the volume co-editor Gavin Parkinson, reflects on the centrality of the theme of visual memory to the conceptual practices of the discipline, and its particular relationship to the genesis and history of the journal, Art History, as the flagship journal of the national Association of Art History UK
