Abstract / Description of output

Gavriil Adrianovich Tikhov (1875–1960) was a polymath caught up in a distinctive period of scientific and political history. His interest to us in the context of the translation of his work Astrobiology, presented here, is that he was an early proponent of linking biological sciences with astronomy to explore questions at that interface and specifically to address the question of whether we can find instances of life beyond Earth. He coined the word “astrobotany” and developed ideas about how one might set up astrobiology institutes.
