Barcelona's Raval: Manuel Vazquez Montalban's "inner" city

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Look at the representation of El Raval -the historically poor, working-class neighbourhood in Barcelona city Centre, where Vazquez Montalban was born- in two of the author's works, the short story "Bolero" and the book-poem "Ciudad". I argue thet Vazquez Montalban sees many of Barcelona's revitalization projects as a slow erasure of historical identity alongside a disenfranchisement and displacement of the urban poor.
