Abstract / Description of output

In this chapter we consider the barriers to living kidney donation with reference to a socio-ecological model (SEM). We describe how barriers to living kidney donation exist at multiple levels and time points in the living donor identification and assessment process. We describe individual, interpersonal, organizational, socio-cultural and policy factors that prevent or hinder living donation, referencing relevant research. We highlight that more work is required to investigate barriers associated with healthcare providers and practice.
