Abstract
This chapter discusses the over-looked birth father in adoption. It is written from the perspective of over fifty years of experience of being a birth father, thirty years a qualified practitioner with birth fathers and over twenty years as a researcher on the subject. It will review what is known about birth fathers including the experiences of encounters between adopted adults and their birth fathers. It concludes with some thoughts on how those who work with adopted adolescents and young adults might introduce and incorporate the ‘invisible men of adoption’ in their practice.
