directed by: Johanna Wagner; David Graham Scott; RF Simpson; Matt Llyod; Peter Gerard; James Newton; Carol Salter; Jane McAllister
8 short documentaries on the theme of "Future" throws open the creative exploration of moments of transition at a personal and social level.
SDI Research impact and insight:
10 years ago Scottish Documentary Institute was set up in order to stimulate and enhance creative documentary activities and productions in Scotland. Bridging the Gap was created in order to encourage the making of short documentaries for cinema (as a genre), as well as offering an opportunity to young talent to be commissioned and make a film in a professional context yet under constant creative supervision. BtG is one of the leading initiatives for cinema and broadcast in the UK, with international distribution. It is run with a series open-masterclasses and workshops led by international filmmakers. It serves as a synergy between academia and industry and brings attention to Scotland by distributing award-winning films abroad and by bringing international filmmakers in Scotland it creates a focus on Scotland and enriches our visual culture.
It becomes a stepping stone for filmmakers to take part in bigger schemes such as Interdoc and move on to international feature docs and international broadcasting co-productions.
