Abstract
A new type of air-cored permanen magnet generator – known as the “C-GEN” – is introduced. For both linear and rotary types this machine removes the
normal component of Maxwell stress between the stator and the moving part of the generator. By eliminating the magnetic attraction forces, the assembly process is easier than for conventional machines. The performance matches that of
conventional PM machines but has the potential to scale up to large power levels without the need for large supporting structures.
