Abstract
Claude Simon’s Jardin des Plantes shouldn’t be read as an autobiography, despite its important biographical material. The choice and treatment of intertextual and « factual » material are, paradoxically, signals of the text’s status as fiction, enticing to read the novel as an exploration of the relationship between fiction and (auto)biography.
