Abstract
The aim of the Transitions Hub is to create a postgraduate social network to support students in their transition into and through their studies. The long-term vision sees alumni mentoring current students, extending the peer support system that is currently part of study at Edinburgh.
Students and staff have equal access to core tools, including forums, newsfeed and blogs. This means that everyone can create public and private discussion spaces, inform the postgraduate group about events, and share their research interests. As the system allows both public and private posting, these activities can enhance public engagement skills and raise awareness of the digital
footprint.
This presentation will outline the process of creating the hub, and provide a practical demonstration of the tools. It will feature input from the student champions who have been involved in co-creation of materials and demonstrating best practice through effective use of the system. As all tools and materials used are open-access, participants will have the necessary information to develop a similar system should they wish. This project was funded by the Higher Education
Academy.
