title = "Corpus linguistics in English language teacher education during the COVID-19 pandemic: Exploring opportunities and addressing challenges",
abstract = "The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed educational contexts and practices worldwide, and it has made all educational professionals work in difficult circumstances. Master{\textquoteright}s-level English language teacher education (ELTE) programs in the UK are no exception, and they also had to adapt to the pandemic-imposed restrictions. The present chapter focuses on an underexplored module in ELTE—namely, Corpus Linguistics (CL)—which provides current/future English language teachers with the means to develop their language/metalanguage awareness autonomously. The chapter presents and discusses a reflective evaluation of the work required to adapt existing pedagogical practices to the pandemic-imposed restrictions. The role of technology in this adaptation is highlighted both as an opportunity (e.g. the availability of corpora and tools) and as a challenge (e.g. the danger of digital exclusion). Overall, the transition from pre-pandemic on-site CL teaching to while-pandemic online CL teaching was deemed positive. ELTE Master{\textquoteright}s students were able to evidence their attainment of the learning outcomes for the focal module, thus indicating their ability to relate CL to their current/future work as English language teachers.",
