Abstract

It is shown that there is a unique configuration of toroidal magnetic surfaces. This configuration corresponds to more than one plasma equilibrium. It is the configuration of isodynamic equilibria. These equilibria include toroidal minimum‐B equilibria and the distinction between these unstable systems and the stable minimum‐B mirror systems is discussed.
