Abstract

The urgency of rapid and ambitious climate action was underscored in IPCC Special Report on 1.5 °C. In the report, IPCC also emphasized that strong carbon price signals, coupled with further policy instruments, can support ambitious and cost-effective CO2 emission reductions. As contracting states to the Paris Agreement look to implement their domestic climate policies, carbon markets are emerging and evolving to fill an important role in their strategic transition to a green economy.
