Abstract

“How can we support disciplines to design effective behaviour as everyday products increasingly have the capacity to be part of an intelligent network?” The aim of the research is to understand the current landscape of 'Behaviours' in Design, Science and Engineering and develop tools and methods to allow a greater inclusion by a variety of disciplines. The project involves four related activities: (1) Understand and define what 'behaviour' means for relevant disciplines in design, science and engineering, (2) Interview leading designers, scientists and engineers on the subject of 'behaviours' and collect relevant case studies to develop a theory of discipline specific behaviour and how that can be translated. (3) Through a shared 'behaviour vocabulary' develop a methodology to allow multidisciplinary teams to design effective behaviour for everyday products (4) Use this methodology to design effective behaviours for an everyday product.
