Developing novice academics’ feedback literacy: A workshop approach

Vander Viana, Maureen K. Michael

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract / Description of output

The present chapter argues that novice academics’ feedback literacy needs to be developed as early as possible rather than being perceived as an ability that is developed exclusively in practice. Drawing on two successful five-day academic skills workshops for novice academics, the chapter presents some of the main workshop activities and discusses their relevance to the development of novice academics’ feedback literacy. While the workshops were aimed at a specific audience in a particular geopolitical location (i.e., novice academics in Applied Linguistics and Education in the Global South), the activities are transferrable and can be implemented in other academic contexts. We hold that academic skills workshops should become an integral part of the socialization of novice academics.
