N2 - An 8-port dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) was investigated to provide polarization diversity; i.e. right-handed circular polarization (RHCP), left-handed circular polarization (LHCP) as well as both vertical and horizontal linear polarization (LP). The antenna performances in terms of gain and radiation efficiency are compared and reported for the various polarization states. The prototyped DRA has simple slot feeding and can offer high polarization diversity, and this agile feature, can be useful in communication or satellite systems including the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) where the RF environment is challenging, more specifically, where the optimal polarization scheme might not be known apriori. In such configurations, this type of polarization diverse antenna can support approaches to circumvent such fading and improve overall system performance.
