Diffusion of cyclohexane in styrene block copolymers, relationship between mass transport and viscoelastic properties

Abstract

The mass transport properties of cyclohexane in different phase separated styrene blockcopolymer, i.e., polystyrene-block-polybutadiene-block-polystyrene [SBS], polystyrene-blockpolyisoprene-block-polystyrene [SIS], and polystyrene-block-poly(ethylene butylene)-blockpolystyrene [SEBS] were studied using cyclohexane as a probe. Diffusivity showed an increasing trend with penetrant concentration for all the polymers considered and was higher for SBS with respect to SIS and SEBS. SBS had a short range chain mobility substantially higher than that of the other two copolymers examined.
